Blessed Event #12- Merino Kids Sleep Sack Review and Merino Kids Cocooi Babywrap Giveaway

*THIS GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED*

Babies sleep on average 3,000 hours in their first six months.
With that much time spent sleeping, choosing the very finest sleep sack is well worth the investment for your baby's comfort and well being.

I am a believer of using sleep sacks instead of blankets for my babies.
Not only do they keep my babies safe but also keep them covered and warm at night.

But are all sleep sacks alike?

The answer is NO.

If you truly want to keep your baby warm & dry at night
there is only one fiber fit for the job...

Merino Wool

Merino fiber is one-tenth the thickness of a human hair, which produces lightweight cuddly soft merino fabric, perfect against your baby's sensitive skin.

More Benefits of Merino Wool

The air temperature in a nursery will often fluctuate as heating or air conditioning switches on and off. Babies can take as long as a year to develop the full capability to regulate their own body temperature and just a few degrees of variation in room temperature can cause them to wake up cold or overheated. Merino fabric has the remarkable ability to regulate a baby's body temperature to compensate. It captures and circulates air to insulate your baby when the room temperature falls, and releases excess body heat and moisture as the room temperature rises, to create the perfect micro-climate around their body.

Merino fabric will readily absorb perspiration and release it into the air to help prevent your baby from overheating and waking up damp. Tests conducted by the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) in Australia showed that merino fabric has an amazing capacity to absorb liquid - up to 35% of its own weight - compared with synthetic fabrics which are commonly around 1% absorption. For this reason, babies sleeping in merino are much less likely to overheat than babies in synthetic sleep sacks or blankets. Overheating is a possible SIDS contributing factor, and risk of overheating is an important consideration when choosing nursery bedding.

Cotton is not so poor as synthetics at absorbing moisture and CSIRO testing has shown that cotton fabric typically absorbs moisture up to 24% of its own weight. However cotton does not release moisture sufficiently and babies sleeping in cotton sleep sacks can wake up damp and chilled from their perspiration.

The Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag is the first sleep sack in the world to be awarded the new British Standards Institute (BSI) certification for baby sleep sack safety.

The BSI is the national standards body of the United Kingdom. In April it published a new standard specification for baby sleep sacks that gives minimum safety requirements relating to: chemical hazards,
thermal hazards (overheating), entrapment, entanglement, choking, ingestion and suffocation hazards, structural integrity and flammability.

The BSI carefully examined and tested a number of major brand sleep sacks on the market and awarded Merino Kids with the first-ever BSI certification for baby sleep sack safety.

Babysleepbags.com is the official supplier of award-winning baby sleep sacks and baby swaddles from Merino Kids of New Zealand. They sell a variety of Merino Kids sleep sacks fitting your child from newborn to age 4, as well as the Cocooi Babywrap, and 100% natural merino baby gowns.

Our Experience:

Living in an older home I not only wanted a sleep sack that would keep my babies warm at night but that would also be quality made. We were sent a Merino Kids sleep sack in french navy color for review. This sleep sack is unlike any I have seen or used before. I am thoroughly impressed by the workmanship that was put into these sleep sacks. Made with only the best quality materials from the fabrics down to the heavy duty zipper.

Besides all the amazing benefits of the merino wool, I love this sleep sack for it's convenience of use. The sleep sack opens completely for easy diaper changes, it side zips and it's sturdy zipper never runs off the track or snags (like most sleep sacks I have tried), has adjustable snap settings at the arms to fit babies 0-24 months (no more buying multiple sizes), and the Merino Kids sleep sack also has a safety belt aperture allowing me to snap my sleeping baby into his car seat strait from his crib.

The Merino Kids sleep sacks are more expensive then your average sleep sack, but it is an investment you will be glad you made. I know I will never buy anything else again. Lower priced, low quality sleep sacks fail in comparison. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

Baby "E" snug & warm and ready for bed
in his Merino Kids sleep sack.

More reasons to love Merino Kids sleep sacks:
  • All-year-round sleep sacks for babies up to two years and toddlers two to four years.
  • Natural cuddly soft & allergy-safe.
  • Merino regulates temperature so baby won't overheat.
  • Reduces certain risk factors associated with SIDS.
  • The Merino Kids baby sleep sack is worn over sleepwear and takes the place of top sheets, and comforters which can cover a baby’s head.
  • The contoured bodice of the Merino Kids baby sleep sack fits snugly around a baby’s chest and neckline and the fabric stays clear of their face when they twist and turn.
  • The sleeveless design of the Merino Kids baby sleep sack allows for free circulation of air which further reduces the risk of overheating.
  • Made entirely of natural fiber, the Merino Kids baby sleep sack is safe to use for babies with allergies, eczema and sensitive skin.
  • It contains no polyesters.
  • Merino fabric is naturally fire-retardant and the Merino Kids baby sleep sack is rated low fire risk.
  • It has not been treated with the fire-proofing chemicals commonly applied to polyester that can irritate baby skin.

My twins hate to be swaddled, and I learned that the newborn sleep bag is a great alternative to keeping them warm! These sleep bags even have press studs at the armholes that adjust to fit your baby!
