NO MEANS NO!!!

Okay, I have to share what happened to me yesterday because I am still shook up over it all. Well, I had my very last OB appointment. It was my pre-op appointment since I am having my baby by c-section.

After I visited with the doctor, I had to meet with their surgery scheduler to go over the details and sign the final consent forms. So, she hands me the consent form to sign and says real fast and casual like, " this is the consent giving us permission to perform your ceserean and goes over the risks...you've sign these before." Then hands me a pen and shows me where to sign.

I sign the paper without really reading it..because YES, I have done this several times. Then she hands me my copy and as I am waiting for her to do something on the computer, I look down. On the paper clear as day it says, " Permission to perform a repeat ceserean AND tubal ligation!!!!!!!!
What the HECK?????

Let me just say that wiht my last son I had to repeatedly tell my doctor that I DID NOT want my tubes tied. I thought I made that VERY clear. With this baby, when I had my very first appointment and had to meet with the nurse she said it was in my chart that I wanted a tubal. That made me so mad and I asked her to have that removed. So then...(I am not kidding you) almost EVERY time I have seen my doctor he has asked me if I want my tubes tied. I have repeatedly told him NO every time. In fact, last month I told him to please write in my chart that I do not EVER want my tubes tied.

You would think that was enough for him to REMEMBER my wishes, right?? But at my appointment yesterday HE ASKED AGAIN!!! I told him no again. So you can imagine my outrage in seeing that someone had wrote to tie my tubes on the consent form. Not to mention..he signed to approve it and then I stupidly signed not reading it.

I can't even imagine...I am SO very thankful I caught that. Now I am all nervous though. I feel like I should write in permanent marker across my belly... DO NOT TIE TUBES!!!!!

I feel like someone is trying to conspire against me and force me into sterilization! :-(

Home Grown Watermelon

My 9 year old son grew this watermelon from a seed. We went to Chick-fil-A one Tuesday night (family night) and the kids all got to plant seeds. We have NEVER had luck growing watermelon before, but...he did. "C" took care of it everyday and made sure it received lots of water. He was SO proud of his watermelon. Here he is earlier this month holding his own home grown watermelon.

*Yes, this is the same person that won my Itty Bitty Giveaway last night. I don't want to hear anyone upset over this. I will not re-draw a winner if the person have previously won. I would never want someone to do that to me. Part of the fun of giveaways is having the chance to win multiple items. I am here to be fair and honest and am not showing preference to anyone. As long as instructions were followed everyone has the chance to win more than once.*

Pregnancy Q&A

One of my good friends sent this to me in an email and I thought it was cute and wanted to share.

PREGNANCY Q & A

Q: Should I have a baby after 35?

A: No, 35 children is enough.

Q: I'm two months pregnant now. When will my baby move?

A: With any luck, right after he finishes college.

Q: What is the most reliable method to determine a baby's sex?

A: Childbirth.

Q: My wife is five months pregnant and so moody that sometimes she's borderline irrational.

A: So what's your question?

Q: My childbirth instructor says it's not pain I'll feel during labor, but pressure. Is she right?

A: Yes, in the same way that a tornado might be called an air current.

Q: When is the best time to get an epidural ?

A: Right after you find out you're pregnant.

Q: Is there any reason I have to be in the delivery room while my wife is in labor?

A: Not unless the word 'alimony' means anything to you..

Q: Is there anything I should avoid while recovering from childbirth?

A: Yes, pregnancy.

Q: Do I have to have a baby shower?

A: Not if you change the baby's diaper very quickly.

Q: Our baby was born last week. When will my wife begin to feel and act normal again?

A: When the kids are in college.

Random Thoughts

Wanted you to all know that we are all on the road to recovery. Everyone's fevers have broke, everyone is feeling much better and life seems to be on it's way to normal again. We will still stay in the house for a few more days to play it safe. It is so good to see a light at the end of the tunnel.

My Babyshower was suppose to be yesterday. :-( It had to be postponed due to all this swine flu sickness. Now my shower will be next Saturday the 31st. We are really cutting it close as I am having the baby on the 5th (c-section). But....better late then never.

Today I am working hard at getting my house cleaned, it has been completely neglected the past week. On top of this I am determined to start getting things ready for the new baby. SO MUCH TO DO!!! I still have not packed my bag for the hospital, set up help for afterward, wrote my birth plan, or anything. I have a 2 page list of things to do! I need to get busy!!!!

Hard to believe in less than 2 weeks we have a new little baby in the house. WOW!

Swine Flu Update

Wanted to give you all an update as to how we are all doing. I am sure you have been curious. Well, I am on the recovering end of things. My fever finally broke 2 days ago. I now feel like I have just the typical crummy cold. As for my children goes...they are all very sick. My oldest son came down with it 3 days ago and my daughter and 1 year old son got it yesterday. The doctor prescribed Tamiflu for the two youngest because they are considered "high risk" but my oldest son isn't getting it. :-( Too bad because he has been absolutely miserable.

Today the baby started up with wheezing and a barky cough. I took him in and he has croup on top of the flu. We started a steroid liquid tonight to help with that. I am a little nervous to go to bed tonight, we may be in for a very ruff night.

Please continue to pray. I know this eventually will end but in the meantime I am stressed to the max and absolutely exhausted.

Thank You!

Wanted to give a special thanks to all of you who are participating in my first event. I especially want to give a special thanks to those who have put my cloth diaper week event button on your blogs and to those who have been blogging about the contests. This really helps and I appreciate it. * Remember* these giveaways do not end until the first week of November, so please keep the event button up until they all end and keep blogging and telling your friends! :-)

I also wanted to ask you all how you felt this event has been going (besides me coming down with the swine flu in the middle of it)? Do you feel I could have done something different to make it easier? Do I give well enough instructions, has my site been easy to navigate, etc? Let me know...I appreciate the feedback and want my events to run as smooth as possible.

And last but not least...Thank You to all my wonderful sponsors who made my Cloth Diaper Giveaway Week possible!

Here is the links to their sites. I encourage you all to pay them a visit and shop at their stores. Don't forget all the great coupon codes that are being offered during this event as well. Take advantage of those!!

Fuzzi Bunz OS Pocket Diaper Review & Giveaway

*THIS GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED*

I have been a fan of FuzziBunz since I first tried them with my son about 14 months ago. I had only bought 4 FuzziBunz diapers because I invested most of my money on one-size pocket diapers. I had wished that FuzziBunz would make a one-size diaper. I love the way their diapers fit, snap, and function. They have been one of my favorite diapers.

When I discovered that FuzziBunz came out with a one-size diaper I was excited! Not only that, but these diapers have a new sizing design that I had never seen before. I had to see for myself how it all worked.

My Experience With The FuzziBunz One Size:

I was sent one FuzziBunz OS cloth diaper in butter color for review. What impressed me the most about this new design was the trimness of the diaper. Quite possibly the trimmest diaper I have seen.! No bulk whatsoever, but with the same quality and function you come to appreciate with a FuzziBunz diaper. They also have added hip snaps for a better fit. (not shown in pictures below).

The sizing elastic was simple to figure out and I was able to achieve a nice fit on my son. It is nice to have a one size diaper that doesn't "look" like a one size diaper. Not having to look at a bunch of snaps in the front is nice. The only draw back that I can see with this adjustable sizing with elastic verses snaps is ...If you are cloth diapering 2 children at the same time and want to quickly change the size, it is not a quick adjust as with snaps. Once you set the size you are not going to want to adjust again until baby grows.

Overall, I am very impressed by the new FuzziBunz one-size diaper and hope to add more of them to my current stash!

More Information About The FuzziBunz One-Size:

The FUZZIBUNZ ONE SIZE diaper is adjustable through adjustable elastic, NOT snap downs on the front of the diaper like most one size diapers on the market today. Similar to adjustable waistbands for children and maternity wear, the waist and legs have been made customizable through a button / elastic adjustment system. So instead of 3 length settings, you can set to 8+ very customizable sizes. Instead of NO waist settings, you have up to 4+. So you have a SUPER adjustable diaper without an excess of snaps. It may take a bit of "adjusting" to get to the right size, but when you find the right fit, you set it and forget it.
Never before has a pocket-style cloth diaper been SO adjustable!

FuzziBunz One Size Diaper is built to last - these diapers will last from birth to potty training - up to 3 years of use and possibly more for other children! FuzziBunz has been a leader in the cloth diaper industry for 10 years. Their diapers offer durable snap closures and a unique elastic system on their diapers. If the elastic would happen to give out, it can be replaced in less than 10 minutes with no re-sewing and no seam-ripping!

I bet you would love to try these great one-size diapers!

Buy it! You can purchase online at any of these retailers. Click here.

Win It! FuzziBunz has generously offered one lucky Happily Domestic reader 2 FuzziBunz One-size diapers!! Includes One Infant Size and One Toddler Size Insert per diaper. Also includes a free bonus elastic kit with each One Size diaper. $38.00 value!

Blue Penguin Diapers SposoEasy Review & Giveaway

*THIS GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED*

When I first heard about Blue Penguin Diapers and that they are made from natural materials such as organic cotton and hemp, I knew I wanted to try these out. The majority of my cloth diapering has been with fleece and micro-fleece and so I wanted to see what the difference between the two were. Also, Blue Penguin carries AIO diapers that have been given great reviews on how fast drying they are. This peaked my interest as well. I owned only one AIO and have always been disappointed at how long it takes to dry.

My Experience With Blue Penguin Diapers:

I was sent a chocolate brown SposoEasy AIO cloth diaper with snaps and hemp filler and a chocolate brown Sposoeasy AIO cloth diaper with velcro and organic cotton filler as well as an organic cotton doubler for nighttime use.

I was blown away by the quality of these diapers. They have a luxious look and feel to them. The deep chocolate brown is a beautiful color and looks so nice paired up with the natural fabrics. I love how it has an attached doubler for faster drying. I believe this is why so many other AIO take so long to dry. There is simply too many layers all sewn together. With the Sposoeasy I found these diapers dried just as quickly as my other diapers. (which is about 1 1/2 cycles on low in my drier). *You will want to wash these diapers several times before the first use for best absorbancy. Afterward, these diapers become softer and more absorbant with each washing.*

I was able to achieve a good fit on my son with both the snaps and velcro, but recommend the velcro for skinnier babies as it did seem to achieve the best overall fit with my skinny toddler. Another nice feature with thes diapers is that they contain openings at the back sides that allows you to tuck excess wings into. This prevents wing droop. Also in these openings, you will find the laundry tabs (on diapers with velcro). This is a smart feature because it "hides" the velcro making it impossible to get hung up in the laundry. Got to love that!

And I can't forget.... My son stayed dry in these diapers, even overnight!

About The SposoEasy AIO diaper:

The SposoEasy™ is simply the best all-in-one diaper with natural fleece fabric on the market today: the trimmest, softest natural cloth diaper out there! It was developed over more than six months and provides leak proof leg openings with no bindings to leave red marks; an adjustable fit at the waist with either aplix or snaps; a quick-dry attached doubler that easily accommodates a second or third doubler for night diapering; and a soft knit PUL exterior shell that is available in seven colors or white. There is no other diaper out there that provides all this and natural fabric next to baby's delicate skin.

Designed to be trim, leak-proof and comfortable for baby, the SposoEasy™ - Fleece Interior comes in two different natural fabrics: organically grown cotton and an antimicrobial hemp. Hemp fabric makes a great, all natural interior for cloth diapers because of it's durability, absorbency, anti-mildew and anti-microbial properties. Both hemp and organic cotton are easier on the environment than other fabrics as they are grown without the use of pesticides.

The use of hemp or organic cotton fabric makes the interior of this diaper similar to the interior of a sweatshirt. The brushed side of the fabric is very soft and fluffy when it is brand new and as you wash it, the fluffiness decreases over time. Just like your favorite old sweatshirt, this diaper will still be soft and comfy (and absorbent!) for baby after repeated washings.

Extremely functional, the SposoEasy™ doesn’t lack for style! Available in either aplix or snap versions, there are also seven colors (sage green, chocolate brown, aqua, black, lilac, raspberry pink and buttercup yellow) or white from which to choose.

The SposoEasy comes in a variety of sizes from Extra-Small to Large to fit your baby at every stage! Bear in mind when sizing is based on weight, you must also use your judgment about the build of your baby. A tall 20lb baby is very different in build than a short 20 lb baby!

About blue Penguin Company:

HISTORY:

In 1993, Blue Penguin was born in the garage of Avima Yaffe. Having just given birth to her third child, motherhood had deepened Avima's awareness of environmental concerns. She wanted to do what she could to help leave the world a clean place for her children. At the same time, she realized that "disposable" diapers were creating a major landfill and pollution problem in the United States. Avima had been trained in engineering and then in biology; what a perfect combination of training and philosophical focus!

After much research and several prototypes, Avima developed a cloth diaper of the most healthy, natural fabric available at the time - 100% cotton - engineered to be well-fitting, leak-proof and comfortable for baby. She designed her diaper to look and "act" like a disposable. It was every bit as easy to put on and take off as any disposable. It fit well and was leak-proof, like disposables. It was, however, far better than any disposable could ever be. Not only was this diaper easy to use, it was also made from breathable, environmentally friendly cloth...it would not be going into our landfills since it was reusable. Hence, the Re-Uz'M™ was born!

Additionally, the design of the diaper, with a unique "quick dry" doubler sewn in, made it easy to clean and faster to dry than other cloth diapers. For a number of years, Avima worked building the business and ultimately began being carried by a number of online catalogs, With the growth of the Internet, she also began to sell as a factory outlet site online, directly to customers. At that point, in 2004, she began to look for a successor to take over the business and was joined by Carol Stewart as a business partner.

CURRENT OPERATIONS:

Carol Stewart
Owner
Blue Penguin Diapers

In January of 2005, Carol purchased Blue Penguin and has taken over all operations of the business. For Carol, Blue Penguin represents a meeting point of both her environmental awareness and her background in non-profit management. While Blue Penguin is not a non-profit business, Carol operates it based on a clear mission statement.

Based in the Glassell Park area of Los Angeles, California, Blue Penguin's products are manufactured in a bright airy workshop to which the office is attached. At our shop we receive fabrics, plan inventory, cut from patterns and sew all of our garments. We also ship all orders from our workshop directly to our customers. One of Carol's great developments since she has owned Blue Penguin has been the SposoEasy™ All-in-One. She designed this AIO in an effort to create an easy to use, easy to care for, well fitting, leak-proof and environmentally friendly diaper. At our shop, we have a staff that fluctuates between four and ten depending on demand: Hector is our fabric cutter, Elva, Maria, Blanca, Golla, Laura and Tomasa sew and trim, interns help with office work, Danny helps organize the warehouse, and Bri and Carol do a little bit of everything! Carol ensures that everyone who works at Blue Penguin lives and works in the United States legally, is paid above minimum wage, has safe working conditions and lives locally, in order to support the local economy and help boost the neighborhood.

At Blue Penguin, we think diapering should be easy, natural is healthy and conserving money and natural resources is important, so at our company we aim to do it all! We are a community-aware, family friendly workplace that is determined to make quality products.

Please Bear With Me

Hello, everyone. Wanted to let you all know not to panic if you are not seeing your comment entries posted. They are all safely in my yahoo mailbox and I will be publishing them as I can. So, please do not enter duplicates thinking they never went through. I have gotten very sick and tested positive for the swine flu yesterday.

I have been in bed with a high fever and am pretty miserable. I still plan on having my last two giveaways posted today and tomorrow, they may not show up until the evening though. I have to work on everything slowly and as I can tolerate. We do not have a lap top computer, thus making things that much more difficult.

Sorry, for the inconvenience. This could NOT have come at a worse time (on many levels). Keep me lifted up in your prayers for a speedy recovery. Also, pray that my other 3 children would not get this. I am having my baby in 2 1/2 weeks and DO NOT need swine flu in our home.

Thanks,
Beth

Knickernappies One-Size Side-Snapping Diaper:

I was sent a turquoise Knicker Nappies OS cloth diaper with 2 micro-fiber inserts and a hemp/micro-fiber LoopyDo 2G Insert to try for review.

What a nice diaper! Quality made, very soft to the touch, and nice thick inserts in 2 sizes to fit your baby at different stages.

I washed the diaper and inserts right away so that I could start testing them out. I was able to achieve a nice fit of my son. The side snaps were easy to figure out although seeming to be complicated by the looks of them.

My son wore this diaper during a long nap, another time during the day, and at night. I am happy to report that the Knicker Nappy held in the wetness, keeping my little one nice and dry.

Features you'll love about Knickernappies OneSize Diapers:

  • Four size adjustments to fit your baby best -- Small, Medium Short, Medium, and Large
  • Tested to fit babies from about 8 lbs to 40 lbs
  • Two inserts with every diaper, sizes small & large, and our inserts are Made in the USA!
  • A scooped tummy panel & top stitching for best fit under chubby baby bellies
  • Elastic on both sides of the pocket opening to hold the insert in place
  • Very gentle Lastin elastic in the leg and waist - no red marks!
  • Lastin elastic is long lasting and can't "go out" like regular elastic
  • Two Year Guarantee on elastic and snaps.

Nubunz Cloth Diapers Review & Giveaway

*THIS GIVEAWAY HAS ENDED*

Are you new to cloth diapering and absolutely overwhelmed by the upfront cost to get started? Are you wanting to use One size pocket diapers but are considering prefolds and covers due to the cost?

You will be happy to know that with Nubunz cloth diapers, you not only get a one-size pocket diaper with 2 inserts...but you will only pay $9.50 per diaper as well!
That is around the same price as a prefold and cover (depending on which brand you buy) and you will not need to buy the next size up EVER.

These diapers will fit your baby from birth to potty training!

Outer Shell – waterproof outer barrier is made from breathable polyurethane laminated outer poly knit to keep wetness contained. This adds up to more protection for your baby, the bed and linens from leakage.

Inner Fleece – The soft polyester micro fleece inner layer gently touches your baby's skin. This fleece layer pulls away moisture and keeps your baby dry, comfortable and rash-free.

Pocket Opening – This is the gem of this product. The pocket-style opening enables customization to suit your baby's needs. You can stuff the pocket with the included micro terry insert for maximum absorbency. You can also add additional inserts for the heavier wetter.

Insert – 3 layers Polyester micro terry cloth. These are really soft and absorbent. Just used by themselves, these are nice and cozy to the touch.

We respect the privacy or our customers and would never sell or trade personal information in any form. This is our promise to you, our customers.

My Experience:

I was sent one Green Nubunz OS diaper with velcro and one Butter Yellow Nubunz OS diaper with snaps for review. I was wanting to compare the two different closures to see which I preferred. I would compare the velcro and snap systems on these diapers with that on Haute Pocket diapers. Velcro is nice and strong and snaps are easy to use and are nice and tight (nothing worse then loose buttons that are hard to snap and pull apart).

I did however prefer the snaps closure on this diaper verses the velcro, only because the diaper with the velcro was stiched closed under the velcro. This made it where the insert will not go to the very top of the diaper. This did not seem to affect the absorbancy of the diaper, but I feel better knowing there is full coverage (esp. up front for boys). I tested these diapers out several times on my baby (during naptime too) and did not have any leaks. :-) For the price...you can't beat the Nubunz!
