Being a parent is one of the hardest things you will ever do, however it is also one of the greatest and most rewarding things you will ever do! As a parent there is so much we need to teach our children that sometimes it can be daunting. This is when it's nice to have great resources to help us along the parenting journey!

Doorposts began when one couple saw a need to prepare character building materials for their own children. They realized that training their children to be responsible, respectable, Godly adults would take closely following the scriptures. With that they developed the"If-Then Chart". Others started requesting these charts and what was meant for their own family soon turned into a full fledged family business!!! Since then, 20 years have passed and Doorposts is now a thriving, family run company selling character training tools to parents all over the globe!


I was sent Doorpost's character training book for girls entitled "Polished Cornerstones." In Psalm 119: 12 it says, "...That our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace." Pam Forster created this book to help mothers train their daughters to be "beautiful polished pillars that will be strong supports to their husbands and families, and cornerstones of godliness in a crumbling culture". Isn't that what we all want for our little girls?

Polished Cornerstones is formatted to be used throughout your daughters growing years. There are 52 characters lessons in this book and each one contains 3 levels- Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Your daughter will learn lessons in honesty, patience, being thrifty, organization, handling money, being hospitable, modesty, grace and more! What I love most about Polished Cornerstones is that you do not have to start at the beginning and work your way through the whole book. You are free to pick and choose what you want to work on as you need it. Pam recommends choosing subjects that you daughter is currently struggling with or perhaps an area that she already shines in! There is no strict guidelines to follow.

Each lesson in Polished Cornerstones includes an overview of the topic, scripture memory to go along with each character trait, mother and daughter Bible study suggestions, and a list of possible projects you can choose to enhance each lesson. Pam gives lots of helpful tips on how to best use the book. She gives recommendations on resources you can use to make your lesson time more fun and educational. There are also reproducible pages in the book to help you keep track of your lessons and projects a month at a time. I especially appreciate this as I am a planner and list maker. If I don't have things written down on paper I soon forget what needs to be done!

As a mom, I see having books like Polished Cornerstones on hand as an asset. If you read my background on my "About" section, you learned I was primarily raised by my father. My parents divorced when I was only 6, but my mom had pulled away from her responsibilities long before that. I am thankful to have had 5 older sisters who throughout the years stepped in and taught me a thing or two. But, nothing quite makes up for your own mom teaching you what you need to know. Even at 32, I still feel there is much to learn! I feel blessed to have found Polished Cornerstones because it has outlined for me what I want for not only my daughter's life but my own! I read through all 497 pages of the book cover to cover within a few days! This is what I have been desperately needing! I know it will take several years for me to teach my daughter all the lessons in this book, but I look forward to what we will learn together and how God will change both our lives along the way.
