What’s the different between a detox diet and a traditional diet? Which one is right for you?

Many people want to lose weight and there are literally hundreds of different diet plans, supplements and pills out there to choose from. Recently a number of companies have launched ‘detox diet’ programs which claim to help you to lose weight and improve overall health by removing toxins and impurities from the body.

So what is a detox diet and is it any more effective than a traditional diet?

Detox Diet

The term “detox” is actually a medical term and refers to the body’s natural detoxification processes which are controlled by the liver, kidneys and digestive system. The body is well equipped to get rid of any environmental toxins and dietary side products that are of no nutritional value.

In the last few years the concept of a ‘detox diet’ has becoming increasingly popular as people become aware of the negative impact that environmental toxins can have on health and wellness (its estimated we are exposed to over 2000 different toxins every day). Toxins are found in the foods we eat, the air we breathe, the household products we use to clean, and a number of modern medicines. We also lead modern, stressful lifestyles which can have an impact on our overall health.

Often when we expose the body to this many toxins it simply can’t keep up and toxins can backup causing the bodies normal PH balance to shift and become acidic. Research is now starting to show that an acidic body can be the cause of a range of health problems including weight gain, tiredness, susceptibility to colds and illnesses and generally feeling run down and lacking in vitality.

A detox diet provides the body with herbs and botanicals that have been shown to support the body’s natural cleansing processes and help it to remove toxins and impurities to restore the body’s natural balance.

Many toxins are stored within fat cells, which are removed as the toxins are expelled from the body which is why many people experience weight loss during a detox diet program.

A detox diet is not a harsh colon cleanse which may strip the body of vital nutrients, but a gentle whole body cleanse.

Isagenix is an example of well know, natural, safe and clinically proven detox diet.

Traditional Diet

A traditional diet is usually centered on calorie counting or portion control, popular examples being Weight Watchers or the MediFast progam.

With these diets you restrict your intake of certain foods and ensure your total food intake doesn’t exceed the maximum number of calories allowed each day.

Because you are provided with a program to follow and guidance the research shows you are more likely to lose weight when following a diet plan than when doing it on your own, however many people find the results are short-term or achieve only limited results and the weight many return when you finish the diet.

Research shows that some of the popular diets may actually deprive the body of vital minerals, vitamins and other essential nutrients as dieters cut calories and avoid particular foods.

Nutritional Cleansing with the Isagenix Cleanse

The Isagenix cleanse is a popular weight loss and fat burning system that uses the principles of nutritional cleansing to help people lose weight and restore peak health.

Using nutritional cleansing Isagenix have taken the concept of a detox diet a stage further and as well as using proven herbs and botanicals to help the bid rid itself of toxins and impurities. The Isagenix cleansing program also nourishes and feeds the body with the perfect balance of nutrients to enable the body to bring itself back in to its natural balance and a healthy alkaline state.

There are a number of different Isagenix cleansing programs available, however the Isagenix 9 day cleanse and the 30 day programs are the most popular.
