Being a parent is one of the hardest things you will ever do, however it is also one of the greatest and most rewarding things you will ever do! As a parent there is so much we need to teach our children that sometimes it can be daunting. This is when it's nice to have great resources to help us along the parenting journey!

Doorposts began when one couple saw a need to prepare character building materials for their own children. They realized that training their children to be responsible, respectable, Godly adults would take closely following the scriptures. With that they developed the"If-Then Chart". Others started requesting these charts and what was meant for their own family soon turned into a full fledged family business!!! Since then, 20 years have passed and Doorposts is now a thriving, family run company selling character training tools to parents all over the globe!


I was sent Doorpost's character training book for girls entitled "Polished Cornerstones." In Psalm 119: 12 it says, "...That our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace." Pam Forster created this book to help mothers train their daughters to be "beautiful polished pillars that will be strong supports to their husbands and families, and cornerstones of godliness in a crumbling culture". Isn't that what we all want for our little girls?

Polished Cornerstones is formatted to be used throughout your daughters growing years. There are 52 characters lessons in this book and each one contains 3 levels- Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. Your daughter will learn lessons in honesty, patience, being thrifty, organization, handling money, being hospitable, modesty, grace and more! What I love most about Polished Cornerstones is that you do not have to start at the beginning and work your way through the whole book. You are free to pick and choose what you want to work on as you need it. Pam recommends choosing subjects that you daughter is currently struggling with or perhaps an area that she already shines in! There is no strict guidelines to follow.

Each lesson in Polished Cornerstones includes an overview of the topic, scripture memory to go along with each character trait, mother and daughter Bible study suggestions, and a list of possible projects you can choose to enhance each lesson. Pam gives lots of helpful tips on how to best use the book. She gives recommendations on resources you can use to make your lesson time more fun and educational. There are also reproducible pages in the book to help you keep track of your lessons and projects a month at a time. I especially appreciate this as I am a planner and list maker. If I don't have things written down on paper I soon forget what needs to be done!

As a mom, I see having books like Polished Cornerstones on hand as an asset. If you read my background on my "About" section, you learned I was primarily raised by my father. My parents divorced when I was only 6, but my mom had pulled away from her responsibilities long before that. I am thankful to have had 5 older sisters who throughout the years stepped in and taught me a thing or two. But, nothing quite makes up for your own mom teaching you what you need to know. Even at 32, I still feel there is much to learn! I feel blessed to have found Polished Cornerstones because it has outlined for me what I want for not only my daughter's life but my own! I read through all 497 pages of the book cover to cover within a few days! This is what I have been desperately needing! I know it will take several years for me to teach my daughter all the lessons in this book, but I look forward to what we will learn together and how God will change both our lives along the way.

Why having an Organic Crib Mattress is important:

Did you know that crib mattresses have been coated with chemicals such as phosphorus, arsenic and antimony? Most crib mattresses are filled with polyurethane foam with a outer cover made from PVC. Scientist have found that fungus that commonly grows in bedding can interact with these chemicals to create poisonous gases. If a baby breathes or absorbs a lethal dose of the gases, the central nervous system shuts down, stopping breathing and then heart function. These gases can fatally poison a baby, without waking the sleeping baby and without any struggle by the baby. Very scary! Between bedtime and naps, our babies and toddlers spend more time in bed each day then they do awake. I could not recommend having your baby sleep on anything but an organic crib mattress!

This bassinet contains similar features as the new Preferred Position bassinet including the Light Vibes electronic unit. This is an awesome feature! The Light Vibes not only plays comforting melodies for you baby, but gives a nice, calming, vibrating sensation that soothes your little one to sleep! Trust me....this was a life saver many a time! The quality of these bassinets is wonderful. They are sturdy, roomy, and offer lot's of storage space in the underneath storage basket. If you remember, last year I reviewed the Contours Options II tandem stroller. The new Optima is quite similar except has a few extra perks (being lighter weight, etc). I have had my Contours Tandem for 1 year now and I am continually impressed by it! My husband comments how much he loves it almost every time we use it! For a larger stroller it is so easy to handle. The steering capabilities on it are amazing! We love the seating options and all the storage space. We always receive compliments on it. It is definitely the Cadillac of all tandem strollers! As a review blogger I have had the opportunity to work with them on numerous occasions. I am continually pleased by their products. Welcome to the Kolcraft Silent Auction! This auction is being held for the sole purpose of helping my dear friend Lori Morgan and her 2 young daughters. On April 10th, 2011 Lori and her girls said goodbye to their beloved husband/father who lost the fight to cancer. Dayne Morgan battled a rare form of Non Hodgkins Lymphoma for almost 2 years. At the time Dayne found out he had cancer, he also had been laid off from his job. There was no medical insurance and the only income coming in was unemployment. Dayne started chemotherapy and as you can imagine the medical bills started rolling in by the dozen. Dayne was hospitalized numerous times and spent several weeks in ICU on a ventilator last fall with strep pneumonia. All this time, no medical insurance. With no life insurance, no money and a large amount of debt, Dayne left this world.

No wife and mother should have to face what my friend is dealing with. Life is hard enough! It is now our turn to pull together and do what we can! My goal is, with the help of all my wonderful blog readers to contribute $1,000 to help this family. I know we can do it! God asks us to take care of the widows and orphans. We must not turn a blind eye! Please bear this in mind when bidding in this auction. This auction is not for snagging a killer deal on baby gear, it is to help! Urgent Prayer Request

I just received a phone call from my friend Lori (the one I have been writing about) and she just got news that her dad may be dying. He has been in the hospital this past week with a severe stomach and intestinal blockage. His heart is to weak to perform surgery and his health is failing fast. They believe he may be full of tumors. He is 76 years old.

Please lift Lori and her family up in your prayers. After having just lost her husband 2 weeks ago, this is a bit more than anyone can bear. My heart goes out to her. I cannot even imagine!
