MFW Kindergarten- Unit 3 "L" for Leaf

Can I just say I am loving all the themes with My Father's World kindergarten!  It makes each week so enjoyable and the kids are not bored at all.  It has really been a lot of fun!

Unit 3 was all about leaves and the the letter "L".  We learned about love and how part of loving God is trusting God and obeying his commands.  We made our very own books about trees, enjoyed a "leaf" sensory bin, and learned what it means to be honest.

Here is our week in review...

Bible Memory: "Love each other as I have loved you." John 15:12

Here are the boys with this weeks verse.

Bible memory prize for this week was punch balloons!

Books we read:

The Best Fall Of All
By Laura Godwin

Wonders of the Seasons
By Keith Brandt

The Little House
By Virginia Lee Burton

This book was a lot of fun and covered the 4 seasons as well as the changing of the times.
My boys really enjoyed this one.  Very cute!

A Tree Is Nice
By Marc Simont

This book was the favorite of the week.  We sat outside to read it and afterward the boys made their very own tree book.  See below:

I thought the boys would be thrilled with the fall leaf sensory bin, but they actually didn't know how to play in it.  They ended up bringing out some duplos and hot wheel cars to make it more interesting. Haha!

Leaves and gourds were bought at Dollar Tree, pine cones and mini pumpkins from Micheal's and they are scented.  The whole sensory bin smells wonderful!

"Okay, mom what is so fun about leaves and pine cones?"

"Now we're having fun!"

Badge Time!

For unit 3 a leaf hunt is suggested. However, during our first week of school my older children were learning about leaves in science so we did one then.  Here are the pictures from the leaf hunt.  They collected leaves from our yard as well as some of the neighbors.  At first we tried to iron them between wax paper but it didn't work so well.  We ended up laminating them instead.  For the older kids I had them label the different types of leaves.

Pulling leaves from the mulberry bush.

J Bug and Little E so proud of their leaf piles.

That's a whopper!

Pretty!

It is truly amazing how unique leaves are! There are so many different varieties.
